Photo Mosaic Wizard
You've probably seen one somewhere -- a photo mosaic. That is a large poster-sized picture
composed of smaller pictures arranged as tiles. A while back, I thought it would be fun to
write a program that creates photo mosaics. After all, I have several thousand pictures from
my digital camera to work with. I was able to write a basic version of a photo mosaic creation
program in a few days but I decided to rework it into a wizard that is easy to use. Of course,
that took a LOT longer, plus I added some advanced features along the way. After a lot of
hard work, I introduce: Photo Mosaic Wizard.

November 29, 2009 - Version 0.2 Improvements
- MacOS X support was added.
- JPEG images with a number of color channels other than 3 were not being read properly.
- Saving large photo mosaics caused the wizard to lock up temporarily
.
- Photo mosaics are now saved to the desktop by default.
- Windows 7 support was improved so the Pictures directory is located correctly.
- The image database update phase was improved so it makes sure files are
still available before proceeding to the matching phase.
- The image database update phase was improved so it can save a smaller
resolution tile that can be used to greatly accelerate the image assembly
phase.
- An extra image read was removed
.
- The "exclude directories" feature was fixed.
- Image rotation was improved to yield better matches with source tiles.
Features
- Assemble your entire JPEG image library into photo mosaics of any size.
- Select any number of directories that contain JPEG images and exclude directories whose images you don't want.
- You can pick the number of tiles used in the photo mosaic.
- Automatically tints images to better match the photo mosaic tiles.
- Sit back and watch Photo Mosaic Wizard create your photo mosaic.
- Photo Mosaic Wizard is written for multi-core CPUs and it can use as much processing power as you can throw at it.
- Photo Mosaic Wizard uses edge detection and flesh-tone detection to prioritize its image matches so the most suitable pictures in your library are put where they matter the most.
System Requirements
- Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, MacOS X 10.5, MacOS X 10.6
- 512Mb RAM (1Gb recommended)
- Recommended processor: Intel Core 2 Duo or better

How to install
| Windows XP/Vista/7 |
MacOS X 10.5/10.6 |
|
All you have to do is download Photo Mosaic Wizard
and save it to your desktop. It is a self-contained application so no extra DLLs or intallation
steps are required.
|
You can download the Mac Installer version of Photo Mosaic Wizard and follow the installation
instructions. If you are not allowed to install applications into /Applications then you
may instead download the zipped application and unzip it to your desktop or some other suitable
place. Once unzipped, your Mac should automatically recognize the Photo Mosaic Wizard application
and you can launch it by double-clicking it.
